Paolo Gatti musical and artistic research is focused on micro-sampling based music composition. Since years he developed micro-editing techniques based on a concept of consciousness: creation of complex multilayered textures originates from conscious juxtaposition of etherogeneous micro-samples; therefore due to these aggregation of sound grains occurring inside the pieces, the formal architecture might contain a certain amount of unpredictability. In this process, synthesis algorithms are bypassed; moreover this method avoids usage of automatic or generative systems as the primary sources in the composition process; conversely it is given space to forms characterized by micro-transitions, articulations and structural gestures which are built brick by brick in a gradual and intrinsically surprising procedure of sound sculpting. Paolo Gatti current interest is also the application of the above mentioned micro-sampling techniques to different music genres
